
Martin has 40 years experience in public health, in national and local government, in the NHS and voluntary sector. In 2025 Martin retired from his post as Tobacco Control Evidence Lead having led the Public Health England’s tobacco control program.
Previously he had been Director of Policy & Research at Action on Smoking and Health playing a leading role in the campaigns for smokefree legislation and standardised packaging of tobacco products.
Martin started his public health career during the AIDS crisis occupying leadership roles in the NHS and voluntary sector.
